The specific heat capacity of transformer oil is about 1.9 kJ/(kg ·℃), which is four times that of air; The heat conduction efficiency is much higher than that of air.
Natural convection or forced circulation of oil quickly removes heat from the winding/iron core, resulting in low temperature rise and uniform heat dissipation.
It can support long-term stable operation of ultra large capacity (hundreds of MVA level) and high voltage (110kV~1000kV).
Strong short-term overload capacity, able to withstand 1.5~2 times the rated load without overheating.
High insulation strength, electrical safety and reliability
The power frequency breakdown strength of insulating oil is 30-45kV/2.5mm, which is 4-7 times that of air.
Oil completely covers the winding/iron core, with uniform electric field distribution and low risk of partial discharge.
Under high voltage, the insulation distance can be significantly reduced (such as 1 meter for 110kV in air and only 15 centimeters in oil), making the structure more compact.
Suppressing internal arcs and delaying fault development, the arc of the tap changer can be extinguished by oil cooling within 10-20ms.
